Sphere Media is pleased to announce that its film project Ethel will be presented at the Gap-Financing Market in Venice. This market is organized as part of the 80th Venice Production Bridge Festival, which runs from August 31 to September 5.
Ethel was chosen from among hundreds of projects from all over the world. Produced by Port Pictures (Ireland) and Sphere Media, Ethel tells the story of Ethel Stark, founder of the Montreal Women’s Symphony Orchestra in the 1940s. The film will be directed by Irish filmmaker Aisling Walsh (Maudie), stars Shira Hass (Unorthodox) and will be distributed by Sphere Films.
“It’s an honor to have been selected to be able to present Ethel as part of this market,” said Marie-Claude Poulin, the film’s producer. “Ethel Stark is a key figure in the history of Montreal’s musical landscape, and we want to be able to better tell the story of this exceptional woman to Canadians and people around the world.”
Venice’s Gap Financing Market is dedicated to films in advanced stages of packaging and financing. It enables producers to meet with financiers, banks, distributors, sales agents, distribution platforms and various institutions, with the aim of bringing the project to fruition.
