Montreal, winter 2002. Stéphane, a 19-year-old metal fan and graphic design student, dreams of becoming an illustrator. But for months he has been caught up in a threatening spiral: he is addicted to lotery games.

Romain Gary, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife, the actress Jean Seberg, takes in a stray dog. The dog quickly finds his place in the house, with Diego, the couple’s only son. He is affectionate with everyone. Everyone, except Black people.

In 1981, the Trogi family moves into a new home. At eleven years-old, Ricardo doesn’t understand the meaning of the word “mortgage” but fully feels its impact. He is the new kid in a class where the other students are from wealthier backgrounds, and he feels his honour is at stake.

Obscure TV personality, Benoit Robert dreams of making it big in show-business. Frustrated comedian Stéphane Deblois convinces Benoit that writing screenplay will earn them the succes they deserve, so they resolve to go to Rouyn-Noranda to isolate themselves and find inspiration.
