Sphere Films International and micro_scope are pleased to announce that a sale has been concluded with UFO Distribution for the French theatrical distribution rights to the science fiction comedy Viking. Viking was warmly received at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last month, and was named Best Canadian Feature Film.
Viking features the Viking Company recruiting volunteers to work on the first manned mission to Mars. The goal is to form a B-team of alter egos who will live the adventure in parallel, behind closed doors on Earth, in the hope of solving the interpersonal problems encountered by the five real astronauts who will soon land on the Red Planet. Viking tells the story of how David, a physical education teacher, seizes this opportunity to rekindle his dream of becoming an astronaut and perhaps make a difference. Somewhere between unlikely science fiction and modern allegory, Viking is a dramatic comedy about the gap between our aspirations and reality.
Viking is written and directed by Stéphane Lafleur (Tu dors Nicole) and produced by Kim McCraw and Luc Déry of micro-scope. The film will be available in 2023 throughout France.
